PC owners are upset because Microsoft is killing a feature that lets them use Android apps on their machines.

It’s been less than three years since the computer giant announced that Windows 11 would allow users to install Android apps on their PCs.

The Windows Subsystem for Android allowed apps from Amazon’s App Store, such as TikTok.

Starting today, Windows 11 users will no longer be able to search for Amazon Appstore or associated Android apps in the Microsoft Store.

Apps already installed will continue to work for the time being.

But they will be drawn in a year’s time, on March 5, 2025 to be precise.

It is not clear why Microsoft decided to withdraw support.

But Amazon seemed to blame Microsoft, saying: “Because Microsoft is ending support for the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA), Amazon Appstore on Windows 11 will no longer be supported after March 5, 2025.

“Amazon and Microsoft are working together to create a smooth end-of-support experience for Amazon Appstore developers and customers on Windows 11.”

The company continued: “Starting March 6, 2024, Windows 11 customers will no longer be able to search for Amazon Appstore or associated apps in the Microsoft Store.

“Customers can continue to use Amazon Appstore apps they previously installed and can still receive app updates.”

Users have largely reacted to the announcement with surprise and shock.

“This feature came and went quickly,” someone wrote on Reddit.

“Disappointing because I was hoping to use it when I bought my next Windows computer.”

Another commented: “Well that sucks.

“It’s been a great addition to my Surface Pro.

“Makes it both a Windows and an Android tablet, with the apps running side by side.”

A third added: “What? I actually use this every week.”
