Mike Tindall revealed the first thing he did with his son Lucas just 20 minutes after he was born.

The former England rugby captain, 45, admitted his two-year-old son Lucas, who he shares with Princess Royal’s daughter Zara, was just 20 minutes old when he watched his first match on TV.

Lucas’s arrival was somewhat dramatic when he was born weighing 3.5kg on the bathroom floor of the family home on Princess Anne’s estate in Gloucestershire.

Speak with The Telegraph, he said: ‘Lucas, the first thing he ever watched as soon as he was born was Bath versus Wigan in 1996, as it happened to be on TV – he was 20 minutes old when he watched it. Hopefully he’ll watch a bit of rugby.’

Mike, who has three children, Mia, 10, five-year-old Lena and Lucas, said he would “love” his children to develop a passion for the sport and wants to take them to more rugby matches.

Speaking about his daughters’ future in the sport, he said Mia is not ‘in love with it’ at the moment, but added that Lena is ‘still going to play’.

The 2003 Rugby World Cup winner added that he and his equestrian wife will support their offspring as they follow in the footsteps of their sporting parents.

Zara won a silver eventing medal at the 2012 Olympics and was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2006.

Mike said he hopes he is not the last in his family to play for England, but is struggling with the fact that his eldest daughter Mia has started supporting Australia.

Tindall and his wife Zara spend time Down Under at the start of every year as they are brand ambassadors for Magic Millions, the racehorse auction.

Zara is the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II and is 21st in line to the throne.

Last year she expressed the hope that her three children will learn to play golf and the shared games that could result from it.

As a guest on IMG Golf’s Opinion Matters podcast, the equestrian said it would be great if Mia, Lena and Lucas “all knew how to swing a club” so the family could enjoy a round of golf together in the future .

She said, “So yeah, it would be great if they all knew how to swing a club and you could do it together.

‘Because you know, that’s what you live for, and experiencing those moments together, it’s so much easier to be able to do them together. We can all be interested in the same things, which is incredible.’

Zara was self-deprecating when it came to her own game, suggesting her offspring would soon be flying past their parents on the course.

Zara told host Di Stewart: “They’re all going to be better than us, aren’t they? And I’m the mug in the back getting 15 shots, they’re waiting for me!’

Zara was one of the participants in the 2022 Slingsby Golf Academy and played alongside Sky Sports journalist Anna Woolhouse, television personality Dr. Zoe Williams and tennis coach Judy Murray.

Designed in the hope of welcoming more women into the sport, the Golf Academy involved six months of training with PGA Professionals and culminated in a competition.

The Tindalls continue to combine their passion for golf with their commitment to charity work as they host an annual golf fundraiser, which last year brought together celebrities including Denise Van Outen, Brian McFadden and BBC presenter Dan Walker at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield.

With the ISPS Handa Championship professional golf tournament underway, Mike is currently in Japan lending his support at the PGM Ishioka Golf Club in Omitama.
