Horrifying moment mum and baby in a pram are struck down by Mitsubishi – as cops hunt for driver

The heartbreaking moment a mother pushing her baby in a pram was hit by a car in an alleged collision has been captured on CCTV.

As the woman was crossing Claremont Street in Merrylands, in Sydney’s west, a blue Mitsubishi drove into the street and struck her about 1.40pm on Friday.

The Mitsubishi was then seen driving away from the injured mother.

Incredibly, the car missed the stroller by inches and the baby was unhurt, but the woman in her 40s fell to the ground with a broken leg.

Witnesses came to her aid and called emergency services. The woman’s son arrived a short time later and cared for his sister.

Witnesses told the officers present that the driver of the car did not stop.

Local man Mohammed Narrouzi was one of the first on the scene.

He found the woman on the side of the road, with her baby by her side.

‘She was lying there bleeding and I asked her what had happened. She barely spoke,” Mr. Narrouzi said 9News.

Mr Narrouzi not only tried to comfort the injured mother, who is from Afghanistan, but also acted as her interpreter as she described the driver to police.

Police are still looking for the driver and have called on him or anyone who recognizes the blue Mitsubishi to come forward.
