Moment when truck driver’s vape battery explodes and bursts into flames after it fell out of his pocket while he was leaning back
This is the shocking moment a man’s vape battery exploded, burning his arm and sending flames shooting through his body.
Liam Moriarty, 33, a lorry driver, was waiting for a collection in Dartford, Kent, when a spare battery exploded after falling from his pocket.
He had reclined his seat when the battery fell into the mechanism of his seat.
Liam, from south-east London, said: ‘The chair’s tilt mechanism pinched the battery, just my luck.
“There was a loud hissing sound and by the time I looked up the flame came up and burned my elbow.”

The truck is ADR equipped, which means that it can transport hazardous substances and has a fire extinguisher ready.
Lima used the extinguisher to put out the flames and was able to save himself and the truck.
He said there was a bed and other flammable objects nearby, meaning the cabin could have caught fire and destroyed the £130,000 truck.
Liam said: ‘It’s just the fact that it’s an ADR equipped truck that the fire extinguisher was there.

Liam used the extinguisher to put out the flames and was able to save himself and the truck
“On the side with the gear mechanism there’s a bed, a chair, all kinds of things that could burn, it could have gone up in flames.”
Fortunately, his injuries were not serious and the flames only slightly scorched his skin.
Liam said: ‘I was more concerned about the truck, which was three months old.
“I wouldn’t have a job and there would be a huge insurance claim. Each of these trucks costs £130,000.
“It would have been huge.”
