More than 100 injured as passengers are flung out of speeding Russian tram when brakes fail, sending victims scattered across the road before the vehicle crashes

More than 100 people are injured and at least one dead after passengers on a speeding tram in Russia were thrown from the vehicle and scattered on the road after the ‘breaks failed’.

The runaway tram reportedly went out of control at 7.35am when it picked up speed and threw commuters out of the broken doors onto the busy Logovaya highway.

The car eventually collided with another tram further down the road, injuring more than a hundred people in the Russian city of Kemerovo. Several people fought for their lives. It is understood there are injuries from both trams.

Terrifying footage shows the tram taking a turn at high speed as the doors come loose.

Two passengers are thrown about 15 meters onto a busy road, where alert drivers screeched to a halt in wet conditions.

A third passenger was thrown from the moving tram after desperately holding on before being thrown out, it was revealed.

They were seen motionless on the road and at least three passengers are in a ‘serious’ condition in hospital.

The number of injured quickly rose to 102 in the hours after the horror incident, Interfax reported – and at least one person has been confirmed dead.

Seven of those injured in the shocking accident were children.

Shot media said the tram had already crashed into a car before speeding away at 100km/h, with the driver Alexandra Marieva, 23, apparently unable to brake.

She had been working as a driver since October last year, according to reports.

Before undergoing emergency surgery, Marieva told her parents that “the brakes failed” on the tram.

She tried to use the emergency brakes and cut off power to the tram, but the tram moved forward out of control, she said.
