Mother, 49, was so drunk while on the school run that she nearly crashed into a police car while being pulled over

A mother who was so drunk on the school run that she almost crashed into the police car that stopped her has been banned from driving for 23 months.

Angela Jones, 49, was picking up her sick child from school when she caught the attention of police behind the wheel of her Audi A3 on the M20 near Maidstone, Kent.

The real estate agent was seen weaving between lanes when police asked her to stop on an off-ramp next to the highway – and she almost hit their car.

The mother of two children was more than three times over the limit, which amounts to 115 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath.

Jones was later charged with drink driving and admitted the offense when she appeared at Medway Magistrates Court on May 16. KentOnline reported.

James Nichols, prosecuting, said: ‘It was around midday and she was seen driving on the M20 and on the slip road between junctions five and six she was seen swerving into lanes and almost hitting the police car.

‘She was stopped and gave a positive result at the roadside and at the station she gave a result of 115.’

Andrew Main, defending, told the court it was Jones’ day off and that was why she had been drinking but received a call from her son’s school saying he was feeling unwell with a migraine and needed to be picked up.

Mr Main said: ‘She initially refused but he has autism and became upset. She didn’t really mind (driving), it was a bad decision,” the newspaper said.

Mr Main went on to say she is “embarrassed” and “embarrassed” by her actions and will resign from her job because “she cannot face the shame.”

Magistrates banned Jones from driving for 23 months because of her good character and the fact she had admitted her guilt and shown remorse at the first opportunity.

If Jones takes a drink driving course, her driving ban will be shortened by five months.

Jones was also given a 12-month community order, requiring her to carry out 60 hours of unpaid work.

She was ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a victim surcharge of £114.
