Motorbike daredevil completes world first with stunning feat on Aussie pier

  • Harry Bink is also the first person to attempt the stunt
  • Bink said pulling off the move from a pier was tough

Australian daredevil biker Harry Bink made history this week by becoming the first person to land a double backflip on a pier.

The world’s first stunt was successfully performed at Queensland’s Redcliffe Jetty in front of a large crowd on Monday morning.

Bink, who had to quickly stop his bike to avoid hitting the fence at the end of the jetty, said he was excited about landing the trick at Redcliffe, the venue of the Fox Australian Supercross Championship in October.

“To do it here on the jetty, it was so tough,” Bink said News Corp.

“When I did the first rotation because we were on the dock, it felt like I was so high in the air, I was looking at the water and it also felt like I was three times higher in the air than I normally do.

“The fact that everyone was watching this was mental.”

Bink recently told fans exactly how he performs the double backflip in a video for Monster Energy.

“As soon as I make that jump, I accelerate, wait for the top and pull as hard as I can,” Bink said.

‘I slowly shift my weight to the center of the bike and let the bike rotate around me.

‘After one rotation I take a look, look for the fluffy, as soon as I feel like I’m falling, I go back into the second rotation – wheels down.’

Championship director Kelly Bailey believes the first race of the year will sell out.

“We are thrilled to bring the championship back to Queensland where we have always been so incredibly supported,” Bailey said.

‘Australian Supercross has had strong success in Queensland in the past – from 2019 in Brisbane to Coolum, Jimboomba and Toowoomba to name just a few locations.

“The timing is aligned to secure Kayo Stadium, where we believe the location, shape and size will deliver a world-class circuit and enable a huge crowd, atmosphere and weekend.”
