Mumba, Maharashtra: Mumbai Police have busted a major fake job scam run from the city and recovered nearly 550 passports of aspirants during raids on the house of the main suspect arrested along with his aide from West Bengal.

According to police, the main suspect had organized a job heist in Mumbai and allegedly duped hundreds of unemployed men by promising them jobs in other countries.

An official said a team of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch nabbed the alleged kingpin, Patit Paban Punin Haldar (36), a resident of North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, and his aide Mohammed Ilyas Shaikh Mansoori (49), a resident of Kamarhati , arrested. stands.

“Police have seized 482 passports of job seekers during a search of the main suspect’s residence, taking the number of travel documents seized so far to 544,” he said, adding that Mumbai Police after the arrest of Patil and Shaikh has arrested seven suspects. in the case so far.

Giving details, a Mumbai Police spokesperson said that based on specific information, Unit 5 of the Crime Branch laid a trap in West Bengal and arrested the two men. The spokesperson said the investigation team also recovered 482 passports of job seekers from Haldar’s residence.

So far, police have seized 544 passports and frozen 23 bank accounts used for financial transactions as gang members collected Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 from each unemployed man to give them jobs in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Qatar , Russia and other countries. Azerbaijan, the official said.

The accused had opened offices in the name of an employment agency at CSMT in south Mumbai and Andheri suburb and duped hundreds of unemployed men by offering them jobs abroad, he said.

They had sent fraudulent offer letters and fake visas to the applicants and disappeared after collecting money, leaving the victims in the lurch, the official said.

Police initiated investigation and arrested the suspects, seven so far, after an offense was registered at Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg police station.
