Mumbai will receive heavy rains in the next 4 days, BMC sends officials to flood prone areas

Mumbai Rains Update: Mumbai is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next four to five days, the city’s city government said. Mumbai will receive moderate to intense downpours in isolated places, the Meteorological Department of India (IMD) said.

  • The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged concerned officials to visit low-lying areas at risk of flash flooding, according to a report by news agency ANI.
  • Mumbai was battered by heavy rains on Wednesday and a man died after a tree fell in a suburb of Malad, officials said. In the past 24 hours, there were 26 cases of tree fall, 15 of short circuit and five cases of collapse/partial collapse of houses in Mumbai, according to the municipal authority.
  • A 38-year-old man, identified as Kaushal Doshi, suffered injuries in a tree fall incident at Mamledarwadi interchange in the western suburb of Malad, an official said, PTI reported.
  • He was rushed to the civilian-run Shatabdi Hospital, where doctors declared him “brought to death,” the official said.
  • Mumbai’s eastern and western suburbs received 12.44mm, 42.41mm and 40.46mm of rain respectively between 8am and 12am on Wednesday, according to officials.
  • IMD Mumbai issued a ‘nowcast’ warning at 9:30am on Wednesday, saying “moderate to intense downpours are very likely to occur in isolated places” in Mumbai along with some other coastal areas.
  • A civic official said the IMD Mumbai has forecast moderate rain in the city and suburbs, while heavy to very heavy showers are very likely in isolated places.

Earlier, the Meteorological Department of India (IMD) issued an orange warning for heavy rainfall in Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Nashik, Pune and Satara. On June 25, the IMD also issued an orange alert for Raigad and Ratnagiri as heavy rains ravaged parts of Maharashtra.

The Meteorological Department of India also stated that the southwest monsoon passed over Mumbai and Delhi. The weather department also issued a ‘yellow alert’ for Palghar, Mumbai, Thane and Sindhudurg.
According to the Regional Meteorological Center, the city of Mumbai received 104 mm of rain and the eastern and western suburbs received 123 mm and 139 mm of rain.

Earlier this month, Mumbai’s Andheri metro was closed due to vehicle movements after flooding caused by heavy rainfall.
