NEET twice a year? What we know so far
In response to the AISU request, the Commission stated that it is “not feasible to take the NEET UG exam twice”. “It is not feasible for the Commission to hold this exam twice a year. However, NEET aspirants are now free to appear for the exam next year as the top age bar had already been removed,” That is what NMC said in a letter. The commission claimed that conducting the NEET, the world’s largest medical examination, twice a year would place an excessive burden on the Treasury. “… NEET examination entails huge amounts of money and other resources and thus holding the said examination may place an unnecessary burden on the government’s coffers,” NMC added.
The Commission stated that “all MBBS seats will be filled in one counseling session and no seats will remain vacant that do not require two NEET exams to be taken”. AISU took to the microblogging site Twitter and wrote: ” Response received from NMC to our representation requesting that NEET UG be conducted twice a year. Their response highlights the financial challenges and pressure on public resources. Response is disappointing.”
