A ship caught fire Wednesday while docking in New Jersey’s Port Newark, a spokeswoman for the New York and New Jersey Port Authority said.

The spokeswoman, Lenis Valens, said by telephone Thursday morning that Port Authority police officers had responded to a fire on a ship docking in the port on Wednesday evening.

Ms Valens said she had no other details, including the status of the fire. CBS news reported that the fire was at a container terminal in Newark.

Representatives from the Newark Department of Public Safety, the Newark Fire Division, the United States Coast Guard and the New York Fire Department could not immediately be reached for comment.

The ports in New Jersey and New York are owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

This is an evolving story.
