Quarterback Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills' first game in the NFL playoffs against QB Bricklayer Rudolf and the Pittsburgh Steelers have been postponed.
“Due to public safety concerns in light of ongoing weather conditions in Western New York, Sunday's Steelers-Bills game has been moved to Monday at 4:30 PM ET and will be televised by CBS,” a statement said shared across NFLs X (formerly Twitter) page read on Saturday January 13.
The Bills and Steelers were scheduled to face each other in their Wild Card game on Sunday to kick off their playoff appearances. The game was to be held at the Bills' Highmark Stadium in New York. Ahead of game day, weather forecasts predicted that heavy snow could lead to unsafe travel conditions.
“The decision to move the game to Monday was made in consultation with the Governor of New York Kathy Hochul in the best interest of public safety, and with the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers, as the region prepares for the storm,” the NFL statement continued.
Hochul, 65, released her own statement via X on Saturday she noted that she was in “communication” with the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the state's emergency response team about the “hazardous conditions.”
“Travel will be extremely dangerous in Western New York this weekend,” Hochul added in a follow-up post. “We are implementing a complete travel ban in Erie County tonight at 9 p.m.”
The NFL could also see the weather impact the Kansas City Chiefs' own Wild Card matchup against the Miami Dolphins. The Chiefs and Dolphins face off in Missouri on Saturday, with temperatures expected to drop to 2 degrees Fahrenheit.
“I'm in the skybox so it won't be too cold [there]. But the windows are open and I'm in the front row, so it's still cold,” said Chiefs' mother Travis Kelce. Donna Kelcetold Additional of her plans to advocate for her son no matter the weather. “I need a blanket and I'm wearing my winter coat.”
The NFL regular season ended on January 7 and a paired group of teams were now eligible for the playoffs. The postseason games will determine which two teams will represent the AFC and NFC, respectively, at the Super Bowl.
This year's Super Bowl LVIII will take place on Sunday, February 11 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The championship match will also feature a headlining performance from R&B superstar Guard.
