“I saved $40 on games,” say Nintendo fans who use the “points” trick for discounts

NINTENDO has a points system that you can redeem for collectibles – and even for game money.

You may even have made some money, and it’s very easy to check.

These points are part of a system called My Nintendo Rewards, and fans revealed how much they like them in a Reddit thread.

A wrote: “Nintendo Gold Points, the only thing their store does well. This is just a small post but I never see it brought up, but I’m sitting on $9 in Gold Points.

“I can buy a $9 game with just the points I’ve collected from buying other games.”

They added: “There have been a few times over the last six years where I’ve realized I’d saved a ton and gotten a game for a lot cheaper.”

Another wrote: “I saved $20 on the game vouchers last time, which means I actually saved $40 on two Nintendo first-party games that never go on sale. It’s amazing.”

POINTS EXPLAINED

There are two types of points you can earn on Nintendo Switch.

The first type is called Platinum Points.

Nintendo says these are “points earned through the use of various services or as a prize for certain promotions or tournaments.”

The game maker continued: “These points can be redeemed for any reward that requires platinum points.”

Platinum Points can be used to collect a whole host of Nintendo collectibles.

There is also another type of point called Gold Points.

These are typically earned by purchasing games, but there are several other ways to collect them.

They are particularly valuable because they can be used to get discounts on video games – or other items for the Nintendo eShop.

“Gold Points can also be earned on certain physical purchases, such as purchasing products from physical Nintendo stores or purchasing packaged Nintendo Switch software,” Nintendo explains.

‘Or through other means determined by Nintendo, such as through participation in certain promotions, tournaments and/or other activities.

“These points can be redeemed for any reward that requires Gold Points.

“They can also be used to purchase eligible digital content from Nintendo eShop or the official Nintendo website (where available).”

Maybe you already have some Nintendo Points, but you’ve just never looked into them.

Fortunately, it is easy to check.

Go to My Nintendo and log in to your Nintendo Account.

Next one go to Menu > Points overview.

You can then see your current Gold and Platinum points total.

You can also see a monthly overview of points expiring within the next six months.

And it is possible to see points that have already expired.

You can also view your My Nintendo points and rewards Historywith the option to filter by specific months.
