Famous non-binary author tells lesbian she should stay home if she doesn’t want to see penises in female-only spaces

A non-binary gender theorist told a lesbian activist that she should stay home if she doesn’t want to see a penis in a women-only space.

Judith Butler made the comments after being asked about their views at an event in San Francisco on Thursday.

Local activist Amanda Kovattana asked the 68-year-old whether trans women who still have penises should be allowed into women-only spaces.

Kovattana asked Butler, “If sex is to liberate us, why can’t I have an ad-free space as a lesbian? A women-only space, without penises?’

Butler quickly fired back at Kovattana, saying, “I think you can do that at your house,” which was welcomed with applause from the crowd.

She then continued, “I hope and trust that you don’t have a son with a penis. I think you’re free to say that.

‘You’re free to say it, you know, and you’re free to say it out loud. I wonder, maybe you wonder, what the danger is of the penis.

“I understand the disgusting, abhorrent nature of rape. I understand that women can be raped by a man with a penis.

‘Those same women, those same men, can also love someone with a penis. The penis is not a dangerous instrument.’

Butler continued, “It is mobilized in the service of violence, teaching men to have a certain way of life.

“I don’t think we reduce people, at least I don’t, to their anatomical parts or their biological parts,” which was also received with applause.

After the audio of their exchange was shared on social media platform X, Kovattana shared the clip.

She added: “Proud to have made a small push towards the erasure of lesbians seeking a penis-free social life, despite Butler’s wholesale erasure of boundaries in this queering of society project.

“It is now said that category boundaries are an imperialist impulse.”

Butler, who is non-binary and prefers to use their pronouns, had been in the California city to launch their latest book, “Who’s Afraid of Gender?” to discuss.

Her comments were widely criticized on social media after audio of their conversation was shared.

One person commented: ‘She immediately jumps in that it’s about fear of violence and rape. But that wasn’t the question.

‘The question was about lesbians having free space for men. Judith comes across as extremely homophobic here.

“It may not matter to her, but it does matter to exclusive sexual orientations.”

Another added: ‘They laugh like fools, they applaud like sheep. Butler talks about violence while telling a lesbian exactly what they say to women under oppressive regimes.

‘Stay at home. Do not speak. Do not complain. Don’t exist. Butler is neither smart nor sensible, and certainly not a feminist.”
