Just hours before an elderly man was fatally attacked on his early morning walk, a naked man was seen behaving erratically in a popular tourist town.

Police have launched a murder investigation after 87-year-old John Kerr was found unconscious on the tourist strip near Noosa Heads, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, around 6am on Sunday morning.

Bystanders discovered the Noosa resident face-up on a concrete pad in Hastings Street with serious injuries to his face. He died shortly after emergency services were called to the scene.

A 27-year-old Gympie man – whom Mr Kerr did not know – was taken into custody after being found 100 yards away on Noosa beach.

He spent the night in custody helping detectives with their investigation before he was later charged in a separate incident – the alleged serious assault of a 69-year-old man in Hastings Street around the same time.

Now witnesses have detailed how they saw a naked man behaving bizarrely a stone’s throw from the crime scene.

A resident, who lives about 200 yards away on Noosa Parade, said he called police after a naked young man started banging on his door at around 3:30 am.

“He kept slamming doors until the police showed up and said they knew him and took him back to Boosa station [sic],” he wrote online.

The resident said police had told him the man’s brother would pick him up once he was taken to the station.

After learning of Mr Kerr’s death, the resident said he contacted police.

Queensland Police would not confirm to Daily Mail Australia on Monday whether detectives are investigating whether the cases are related.

However, police released a statement saying detectives are seeking information from anyone who saw a naked man in the area to contact police.

Police believe the second man allegedly attacked was not known to Mr Kerr.

The 87-year-old is remembered as a ‘respected’ golf enthusiast, having been a member of the local club for 28 years.

Noosa Golf Club managing director Allan Harris said members still had to accept the shocking news.

“We’re all struggling with the whole incident,” he told the Courier Mail.

“Because of his long stay here, he was loved, well respected and an active member.”
