The mother of NRL star Nicho Hynes has been charged again with shoplifting after allegedly trying to leave a supermarket without paying for several items.

Julie Hynes was arrested by officers at an IGA store in Cronulla at around 8.35pm on Friday after attempting to leave the supermarket without paying for several goods.

The 51-year-old was arrested at the same store where she was accused of stealing chocolate and plasters in July this year.

A NSW Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia in a statement that officers had issued a presence notice to Hynes after responding to reports of the alleged theft.

“At around 8.35pm yesterday (Friday 24 November 2023), police were called to a business in Cronulla Street, Cronulla, following reports of a shoplifting incident,” the spokesperson said.

‘On arrival, officers from the Police Transport and Security Command were advised that a 51-year-old woman had attempted to leave the store without paying for items.’

“She was booked in court for shoplifting and trespassing….”

The latest charges follow several shoplifting attempts in Hynes over as many months.

She was fined $200 for stealing $20 worth of chocolates and plasters from the IGA store in July.

She pleaded guilty to the offense at Southerland Local Court later that month.

Facts presented to the court have shown that on May 11, 2023, around 5:30 PM, the damage prevention employee of the IGA store noticed that she was behaving suspiciously between the aisles.

The officer watched as the Cronulla Sharks star’s mother grabbed two boxes of belongings and placed them in a bag she carried on her shoulder.

Later, she put another small box in her bag before going to the checkout and putting vegetables and a purple can on the conveyor belt, but she did not pay for the items in her bag.

She was confronted by the officer as she was about to leave the store and admitted that she had not paid for the items in the bag.

She also admitted to the theft at Sutherland police station on May 23.

On February 9, Hynes was found guilty of supplying drugs after a family friend died of an overdose at her home on the NSW Central Coast.

The 50-year-old pleaded not guilty to one charge of knowingly participating in the supply of a prohibited drug.

Hynes and her boyfriend Michael William Selvage were present in her two-bedroom granny flat in Blackwall when 29-year-old Luke Murphy accidentally suffered a fatal overdose of heroin.

She was not accused of any wrongdoing in Mr Murphy’s death.

She was placed on an intensive corrections order and ordered by the court to live with her son following the drug charges.

Hynes will appear in Sutherland Local Court in January 2024.
