DETECTIVES searching for Madeleine McCann will receive a £100,000 grant to support their investigation, it is reported.

The toddler was just three when she disappeared in May 2007 while on holiday in the Portuguese seaside resort of Praia da Luz.

The request to the Home Office was made in recent days as the £110,000 budget for Operation Grange for 2023-2024 was due to run out at the end of March.

A source close to Maddie’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann said this MailOnline the latest round of funding was “very welcome news”.

They added: “The police will of course have leads if a request for funding has been made.

“Kate and Gerry have never given up hope and they never will. Finding Madeleine or what happened to her is of the utmost importance to them.”

The Metropolitan Police have received £13 million from the government since 2011 in their search for Maddie.

Operation Grange was launched in 2011 by then Home Secretary Theresa May, following a request from Prime Minister David Cameron that British investigators should assist in the hunt.
