The officer, K Jaga Jyothi, was apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while taking bribe worth Rs. 84,000.
Corruption in the public sector is a major problem that continues to undermine trust in public authorities. Recently, an executive engineer attached to the Tribal Welfare Engineering department at Hyderabad in Telangana made headlines for all the wrong reasons. The officer, K Jaga Jyothi, was apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while taking bribe worth Rs. 84,000. The incident, captured in a video that went viral on social media, showed Jyothi in tears as she was caught red-handed by authorities.
K Jaga Jyothi reportedly underwent the phenolphthalein test in which her right fingers tested positive. Phenolphthalein is a chemical compound that turns pink when broken down, making it an important tool in capturing bribes. Traces of the solution stick to the hands of those who touch the marked bills or documents, and the pink color appears on contact with a mild base.
