A 55-year-old woman was ‘accidentally’ shot in the head by a police officer at a police station in Aligarh. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras.

Aligarh viral video: In a shocking incident, a police officer ‘accidentally’ shot a woman in the head while she was waiting for her turn for passport verification at a police station in Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, the incident took place around 2.50 pm on Friday when the victim, Ishrat, visited the police officer in connection with her passport verification.

The incident was captured on CCTV cameras at the station and the footage went viral on social media platforms.

In the video, the woman, identified as Ishrat, is seen waiting for her turn for passport verification at the police station when the accused officer, Sub Inspector Manoj Sharma, is handed a pistol by another police officer.

SI Sharma cocks the gun and apparently proceeds to holster the weapon, but he ‘accidentally’ pulls the trigger and the bullet hits the woman straight in the head at close range, causing her to immediately fall to the ground.

The 55-year-old victim, who suffered a bullet wound in the back of her head, was rushed to a hospital. Her condition is critical.

‘Shot on purpose’, the family claims

Meanwhile, Ishrat’s family claims that the police officer shot her on purpose. They alleged that the officer in charge of her passport verification demanded bribes and continued to harass her for money, leading to an argument after which he shot her in the head.

“Ishrat had visited the police station for passport examination. She was constantly harassed over the phone to pay money so that the verification could go through. I don’t know how much money they (police) demanded. She had an argument with the police and they shot her,” claimed Zeeshan, a relative of the injured woman.

The accused officer has been “missing” since the incident took place, reports said.

Accused suspended, case registered

The family’s allegations have been refuted by the police, but the erring officer has been suspended pending a departmental inquiry. A senior official said SI Manoj Sharma had no role in the victim’s passport verification.

“SI Sharma was in charge of Bhujpura police post while the victim was from Turkmangate area of ​​Aligarh city,” Aligarh SSP Kalanidhi Naithani said, adding that Sharma was not involved in her passport verification process.

The senior officer said Sharma has been suspended due to his “negligence” and the criminal case filed against him.

“Due to negligence, Inspector Manoj Sharma has been suspended with immediate effect and a criminal case has been registered against him. The injured woman is being treated by the doctor’s team and the footage of the incident is being examined by the field unit,” the SSP said, adding that several teams have been formed to arrest the accused constable and strict action will be taken against him be taken if found guilty.

“Further investigations are underway,” he added.
