Despite being a smaller player against Netflix and Disney+, the service was especially popular with Outlander fans.

The historical drama, starring Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, will air the second part of season seven later this year.

But with Lionsgate+ shutting down on February 29, many have been wondering where they can watch the new episodes of the show.

Many had hoped that another site would swoop in and take over Outlander, which has been renewed for an eighth final season.

However, the company has offered a somber update.

The platform will live on on Amazon Prime Video for “a while longer,” but it's still unclear where Outlander will end up.

“So what's going to happen now??” wrote an Outlander fan on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“I understand the steam services are having a hard time, but again the British fans are getting a raw deal.

“We support the show as much as other countries!!!”

Lionsgate+ responded: “As soon as we have an update on a new home for Outlander in the UK, we'll be sure to let you know. Thank you for your patience.”

In a statement to the Emphaticthe company added: “We currently do not know if Starz/Lionsgate+ programming will be available through other providers in the UK after February 29.”

Could more streaming sites close?

Everyone wants to launch their own streaming service – or at least they did.

Streaming platforms have been making a big dent in traditional TV territory for years, but these days there are so many that it would be prohibitively expensive to subscribe to them all.

And so you are left with the big established players such as Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video.

In many ways, it's easier and cheaper to produce shows and sell them to platforms instead.

Sony – which doesn't have its own major streaming service beyond niche interest Crunchyroll – has made a conscious decision to avoid the mainstream and focus on just producing shows, which the CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment described as the 'right choice' given the pressure.

In the US, HBO Max and Discovery+ were merged into a new Max app, while Disney is testing one and Hulu.

Experts believe that more mergers are inevitable.
