Panda Express customer’s fury as he claims restaurant has made a big change to takeout containers

A social media A user has claimed in a video that takeaway boxes given to customers by a popular fast food restaurant chain have become smaller.

The TikToker, who goes by JayFamily (@jayasuriyafamily), posted a video on June 6, he showed off a white takeout box given to him by his local resident PandaExpress.

JayFamily did not clarify what meal size he ordered, but his Panda Express box contained at least two entrees and two sides, including rice, meat and vegetables.

“What we noticed was that it’s not a lot of food for what they used to give,” he said.

He and his family weren’t sure if the portion of the food or the size of the box had changed – until he stuck his fork into the fried rice and made the alleged revelation.

The plate comes with one side and two entrees, while the larger plate comes with one side and three entrees.

Takeout orders for meals of that size usually come in white or black boxes, like the ones JayFamily received from one of the restaurants.

The social media user was shocked when he stuck his fork into the fried rice.

“It’s less than an inch and a half deep,” JayFamily said.

He then claimed that Panda Express had altered its boxes to make them ‘even shallower’.

‘From the side it looks high, but when you look underneath it’s not that deep; it’s even shallower,” he said, holding up the Panda Express takeout box.

“I think this is corporate America. Well done Panda.’

Food served at Panda Express locations is known to be packed with calories.

There are no rules about the exact amount of food, though The daily meal calculated in September 2023 that several starters weigh between five and almost 10 grams per portion.

The Panda Express meal types come with a certain number of side dishes and entrees, but customers can add an additional menu item to their order if they wish.

The restaurant chain has been busy for years, but has come up with a number of arguments on social media.

A Reddit user claiming to be a Panda Express employee even started it a discussion in 2021 about customer frustration with portion sizes.

The Reddit user wrote the post on the Panda Express subreddit after dealing with a moody customer who was giving her a hard time.

“A customer wanted to have an attitude towards me because I gave her the standard honey walnut shrimp,” she wrote.

“I just stood there because I’m not allowed to argue, lol, but I don’t even feel like arguing that it’s just food.”

She then called herself someone who doesn’t follow the rules about serving portions in the restaurant.

‘I’m just an ordinary worker. “I don’t make the rules for portion sizes, so if I give you the portion size of whatever you want, don’t take your anger out on me,” she wrote.

“I get in trouble for feeding too much, so if you have any questions, please contact higher-ups.”

Most commenters supported the Reddit user after the experience she reportedly went through, but commenters on JayFamily’s recent TikTok video either agreed with his statements or trashed the restaurant chain.

“I love Panda Express but they were never good for the amount of food even 10 years ago,” one TikToker wrote.

One wrote that the restaurant chain “used to be so full,” while another noted, “The portions are a lot smaller everywhere now.”

‘When I recently went to eat there, I heard the manager say to the employees “a little less” about my orange chicken. Time to boycott and record like Chipotle,” said one TikToker.
