A teenager fighting for his life after being allegedly stabbed by knife-wielding thugs is reportedly a close relative of Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins.

The incident, which began last Sunday in a park on Herring Road in Macquarie Park in northwestern Sydney, left the 14-year-old in critical condition.

Police allege the injured boy – who cannot be named for legal reasons – was involved in a fight with a group of teenagers in the park before fleeing to Macquarie University train station, where he was reportedly stabbed by one of the teenagers.

Seven News reports that he is a relative of Pat Cummins.

Footage shared on social media showed the alleged attackers mocking the victim and demanding that he say ‘sorry’.

The victim can be seen with bloodied arms and his T-shirt apparently soaked in blood as he descends a flight of stairs.

Another video shows him lying next to an escalator with his T-shirt pulled up and his torso covered in blood.

It was shared online with the sickening caption, “What’s wrong buddy,” and a crying with laughter emoji.

The victim was taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital with stab wounds. Five boys have been charged in the incident.

A spokesman for NSW Police said: ‘After an investigation, five boys were arrested a short time later at Cherrybrook railway station and transferred to Ryde and Castle Hill police station.’

Two of the boys, aged 13 and 15, were charged with assault and possession of illegal drugs.

The other three, one aged 14 and two aged 17, were charged with assault.

They all received conditional bail and will appear before Surry Hills Children’s Court on Monday, June 26.
