Pedro Pascal cries after losing the Golden Globe to Kieran Culkin

If Kieran Culkin took home his Golden Globe, which he had words for Pedro Pascal.

Culkin’s speech was a journey from start to finish. “Sit down!” Culkin, 41, said this during his acceptance speech on Sunday, January 7, before excusing himself for having to burp due to indigestion.

“For the rest, this is a great moment for me. I already screwed up, Jazz, you were right. You said, “Thank you and go away.” You were right,” Culkin said, referring to his wife Jazz Charton. “I was nominated for a Golden Globe 20 years ago, and when that moment passed, I remember thinking, ‘I’m never coming back into this room again.’ That was fine, whatever.”

He continued, “But thanks SuccessionI’ve been here a few times, it’s nice, but I kind of accepted that I would never be on this stage, so this is a nice moment. Suck it, Pedro. Sorry.”

The camera then panned to Pascal, 48, who initially laughed before putting on his best fake crying face. “Mine!” Culkin said before thanking his Succession cast, manager and family members.

Pascal and Culkin were nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama The last of us And Successionrespectively. Earlier in the evening, Pascal made headlines for appearing on the red carpet in Beverly Hills, California with an apparent arm injury.

Although Pascal didn’t clarify what happened to his arm on the red carpet, he was initially spotted in a sling in photos posted by the actress. Jaime Ray Newman on January 2, taken during what appears to be a New Year’s Eve celebration.

In addition to Pascal’s nomination, The last of us is also in the running for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama (Bella Ramsey) and Best Television Series. The HBO show, based on the video game of the same name, debuted on the network almost a year ago.

Since its debut, the series has enjoyed immediate success; the first episode was HBO’s second-biggest debut in more than a decade with 4.7 million viewers across HBO and Max’s streaming services.

Pascal later admitted that playing his character was “completely scary” due to the fan base surrounding the video game.

“It’s so funny to compartmentalize your feelings about things and deal with the amount of pressure that’s put on you,” he said during The Hollywood Reporter Drama Actors Roundtable in May 2023. “I have a psychological game where I say, ‘It doesn’t matter, nobody cares, nobody cares.’ But this time I was scared. I was so scared.”

He continued, “It was more of a visible silhouette, a silhouette of coolness perhaps, and an expectation that would be met in terms of people’s immersive experience with the story. And to disappoint them in that regard felt like it would be… I don’t know. You don’t want to let people down, but no one is immune to disappointing people. I want people to like me.”
