Byford: Dramatic arrest of 33-year-old after his mother was found dead in her Perth home

A man has been charged with the murder of his 61-year-old mother after she was found dead in her home in Perth’s southeast.

Police were called to a house in the Perth suburb of Byford about 7.05pm on Sunday after reports a woman had been seriously injured.

The 61-year-old was found dead by emergency services who arrived on the scene.

Her son, 33, has since been charged with murder.

Police will allege in court that the man fled the scene in a silver sedan from the Peugot station and was not seen by police until 9.15pm, 200km north of the crime scene in the rural town of Moora.

A WA Police spokeswoman said the man was unable to stop after emergency lights and sirens were activated.

The man was arrested in the town of Bindi Bindi – 40km east of Moora – when police deployed a tire pump along the Great Northern Highway.

Tasers were deployed after he reportedly began behaving aggressively and challenging police.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at Armadale Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
