The news is by your side.

Did I get her number wrong… or did she give me a fake number? It’s NOT a competition on this week’s Blind Date, when personal trainer Conrad met PR manager Beki

0

Beki, 31

VITAL STATISTICS

Single for two years, no children.

CURRENT ROLE

Digital PR manager.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

An emotionally refined man. He knows what he wants, is kind, tall and handsome. . . and perhaps a little ambitious.

DATING PAST

I used to be a relationship girl, but it seems I attract commitment-phobic guys, the kind of guys you take for granted.

I was happily single in my late twenties, but I’m now ready to get back on the road and hopefully find the right relationship.

NERVES BEFORE DATE?

Yes, I haven’t been on a date in a while and spend most of my time with my poodle Rusty.

FIRST IMPRESSION?

I was already sitting at our table with a glass of white wine when I saw Conrad. Well, I saw his shirt first, a colorful floral number. He was a little nervous, so we said hello and then I let him sit down at the table.

EASY TO TALK TO?

Yes, we talked about everything from our careers to past relationships. We bonded over the emotionally draining experience of both dating a narcissist. Conrad is funny and he told a lot of jokes, some I got and some I didn’t. But I laughed along anyway.

He’s a personal trainer, but not the typical Joe Wicks; he has a much older clientele.

Embarrassing moments?

Conrad told me he wanted a tattoo of Elvis on his arm and then started singing an Elvis song loudly.

He also involved our neighbors at the next table in lighting the rum on our puddings. I guess they were just being polite and nodding along.

DO SPARKS FLY?

No. Conrad is a nice man, but I wasn’t attracted to him. He needs an outgoing woman who embraces all his quirks. He flirted with me throughout the meal. He said he liked my outfit and winked at me a few times. As we walked to the station he asked if he could put his arm around me and I said no thank you. He replied, “Oh, you’re that kind of girl,” which I wasn’t sure how to take.

SEE HIM AGAIN?

He asked if I wanted that, and I said, “Take my number.” But he didn’t call.

WHAT DO YOU THINK HE THOUGHT OF YOU?

Conrad seemed interested in me and told me I had beautiful eyes. There were also a few compliments: he was very flirty.

WOULD YOUR FRIENDS LIKE HIM?

I do not think so. They would wonder why I was with him. He’s not the kind of guy I usually like.

BEKI’S VERDICT: 5/10

LIKED IT? Conrad made me laugh.

REGRET? No, it’s fun to go on dates.

COFFEE OR taxi? Coffee.

Koenraad, 28

VITAL STATISTICS

Single for six months, no children.

CURRENT ROLE

Personal trainer and online fitness coach.

WOULD LIKE TO MEET

Someone with both feet on the ground, with a good heart, who preferably likes the gym or running.

DATING PAST

I’ve had two serious relationships, but neither worked. Online dating hasn’t helped – I’ve been catfished, ghosted and stood up. But I know that one day the right person will come along.

NERVES BEFORE DATE?

No, I don’t expect to meet my future wife, but hopefully a great girl.

FIRST IMPRESSION?

Beki was wearing a beautiful dress. She has a sweet smile and dark hair. We all told each other they looked nice, but our table was too tightly packed for us to lean over or for Beki to get up for a hug. Instead we shook hands.

EASY TO TALK TO?

We were talking about the gym. Beki prefers cross training, while I’m more of a traditional strength training guy. But we both love running; Beki is working on a 5k run and this year I have the Leeds half marathon. As for music, Beki is a ‘Swiftie’ and has tickets to see her this summer. I’m more of an ’80s fan. When I teach spin, I love the Baywatch hill climbing soundtrack – you can’t beat that.

Embarrassing moments?

Well, I was talking to the next table out of shame when the waiter showed up to set fire to Beki’s crepe and my sticky toffee pudding. I commented: ‘You don’t get this in County Durham.’

DO SPARKS FLY?

There was a bit of flirting on my end. And it was Beki’s idea to exchange numbers, but unfortunately I got hers wrong and haven’t been able to get in touch. It crossed my mind that she was giving me a duff number.

SEE HER AGAIN?

I would like. We are both Harry Potter fans. She has already done the studio tour and I said to her: ‘You are my guide then.’ After three hours I walked her to the station and hugged her goodbye.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?

I think Beki likes me enough. She was in no hurry to get away.

WOULD YOUR FAMILY LIKE TO KEEP HER?

Yes. Beki is from East Sussex and speaks well; she is not common. Her voice is beautiful and I know my parents would love to admire her.

CONRAD’S VERDICT: 8/10

LIKED IT? Beki is a pretty girl.

REGRET? Misinterpreting Beki’s number.

COFFEE OR taxi? Coffee.
