Tripadvisor has revealed the top 20 most sought-after summer holiday destinations for Brits this year – and they are Bembridge on the Isle of Wight topping the charts domestically and the seaside town of Badesi on Sardinia’s north coast is the number 1 trending foreign spot.
Ventnor on the Isle of Wight comes in at number 2 in the domestic ranking, followed in third place by the picturesque town of Llangollen, North Wales, and Balmaha on Loch Lomond (fourth).
The rest of the domestic list includes Salcombe, Devon (fifth); Hayling Island, Hampshire (sixth); Banavie, Scottish Highlands (seventh); Seahouses, Northumberland (eighth); Hayle, Cornwall (ninth); and Looe, Cornwall (10th).
Second in the foreign list is the mountainous town of Hakone-machi, Japan, and third Ksamilon the Albanian Riviera.
Tripadvisor explains that this is a new entry for 2023 and ‘ideal for those looking for a cheap beach holiday’, adding: ‘Lesser known than other European hotspots, Ksamil’s white sand beaches and crystal clear waters give better known beach destinations a run for their money.’

The rest of the foreign list consists of Shinjuku, Japan (fourth); Chuo, Japan (fifth); Cala Santandria, Menorca, Spain (sixth); Da Nang, Vietnam (seventh); Hoi An, Vietnam (eighth); Hong Kong (ninth); and Puerto Banus, Spain (10th).
The rankings are based on a combination of search and sentiment survey data and are part of Tripadvisor’s 2023 Seasonal Travel Index, which reveals several other insights into Britons’ travel plans this summer.
Two in five Britons (43 per cent) plan to travel more this summer than last year, the Tripadvisor survey also notes, and 79 per cent plan up to two holidays.

When it comes to where they go, more than a third (37 percent) will travel both international and domestic, while a similar number (32 percent) will only travel abroad. The rest (31 per cent) will make the most of the warmer weather at home, says Tripadvisor, holidaying exclusively in the UK.
However, despite the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, Britons are slightly more cautious than international travelers when it comes to spending. Less than half (46 percent) plan to spend more on travel this summer, nearly 10 percent below the global average.
Affordability is the most important factor for Brits planning travel, with 71 percent considering spending over other factors such as ease of transport and travel time.

Tripadvisor further reveals that only 18 percent will use social media sites like Tiktok and Instagram for travel recommendations, 45 percent will choose review sites, and 46 percent will choose advice from family and friends.
About half (42 per cent) of Brits are most enthusiastic about tours and activities when they travel.
The most booked experiences for summer 2023 are inclusive Buckingham Palace Guard Walking Tour in London, the UK’s number 1 most popular destination, as well as a day trip to Loch Ness and the Scottish Highlands from Edinburgh, the UK’s second most popular city to visit this summer.
