Plympton property: Woman in her 30s is stabbed to death and another injured in ‘random attack’ – as police arrest man sitting ‘calmly’ at the scene and allegedly brandishing a hammer
A woman is dead and another is in hospital with serious injuries after a horrific stabbing in Adelaide on Wednesday.
Witnesses say a man, believed to be armed with a hammer, burst in a real estate office on Lydia Street in the suburb of Plympton about 3.40pm on Wednesday.
Emergency services rushed to the area where they found the attacker calmly waiting for them outside, while the seriously injured women remained in the office.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate a woman in her 30s for more than an hour with the help of a specialist Medstar team, but she died at the scene shortly afterwards.
Police say the victims were stabbed by a 30-year-old man unknown to either of them and who is expected to be charged with murder.

The surviving woman, who is in her 40s, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious injuries where she is now being treated.
To give evidence told 9News that there was nothing they could do but listen to the screaming that started when the man entered the building.
“I just hear a lady screaming and I’m listening to the door as it just closed,” one woman said.
“To stand here and watch was really scary and horrifying to see,” another added.
The real estate building is located next to a supermarket parking lot and families were among those who saw the attack.
Two witnesses said the attacker was “calm” and was able to be talked down before police arrived, saying he allegedly dropped his hammer and sat outside.
Major detectives and forensic investigators now surround the cordoned off area on Lydia Street.
Police have asked the public to avoid the area.
The street is approximately 6.6 km from Adelaide’s CBD.
