The grieving fiancée of an estate agent who was stabbed to death just before Christmas has opened up about the harrowing moment he found out she had died.

Julie Seed, 38, was working at Real Estate Agents Group in Plympton, Adelaide, on December 20 when Shaun Michael Dunk, 30, allegedly burst through the door and stabbed her and colleague Susan Scardigno, 50, with a knife.

Dunk was arrested at the scene and charged with the murder of Ms Seed, as well as the attempted murder of her colleague, who was seriously injured but survived.

He had only been released from psychiatric care two days earlier.

Mrs Seed’s fiancée, Chris Smith, was the one forced to break the devastating news to her two daughters, aged 12 and 17, and her expatriate family that their beloved ‘Jules’ had died.

Mr Smith was at home when he received a call from one of Ms Seed’s distraught colleagues, telling him to rush to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

However, it was only when he arrived at hospital that Mr Smith ‘discovered the worst’.

Two months later, the moment is still painful for Mr. Smith.

“That was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, but it was just being there for the girls and being strong,” he said 9News.

“The twentieth of every month is going to be difficult.”

Mr Smith and his fiancée’s colleague have vowed to fight for answers as to why Dunk was discharged from hospital two days early.

“There were clearly some mistakes along the way and Julie was just an innocent person in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Mr Smith said.

He and Ms Scardigno met with South Australia’s chief psychiatrist this week.

An independent investigation is also underway.

“It could have been prevented, so if we start at the beginning we can hopefully help others,” Mr Smith said.

The community has rallied around Ms Seed’s daughters and her fiancé and organized a major fundraiser on Friday evening.

The proceeds will help the family get back on its feet.

The sense of community has kept Mr. Smith going.

Hundreds of mourners, mostly dressed in Ms Seed’s favorite shade of pink, attended her funeral in January.

Mr Smith remembered his beloved fiancée as a “loving, caring mother, a friend… who would do anything for anyone” at her funeral on January 10.

‘She had no idea it was coming, but everyone else at the party did. I think it was one of the best days of my life,” he told mourners.

“Julie was the love of my life. She was a loving, caring mother, a friend, who just wanted to be the best friend to her family, and who would do anything for anyone. I’m going to miss your laugh, your smile, your loving embrace.

“You will always be remembered for who you were: an amazing, beautiful soul.”
