Police have arrested 11 people and seized $600,000 worth of drugs and cash after a lengthy operation in regional Victoria.
The eight-month investigation focused on dismantling Shepparton’s main suppliers, with police alleging drugs had been transported Melbourne to a smuggling ring in northern Victoria.
Officers raided 13 homes and warehouses in Shepparton and Melbourne on Wednesday and Thursday, recovering $150,000 worth of methamphetamine, $100,000 of MDMA, $132,000 of cocaine, $10,000 of cannabis, $150,000 in cash, a gun and ammunition, and three allegedly stolen motorcycles were seized.
“Through this week’s efforts, police have removed significant quantities of drugs from the streets of Shepparton, which is a major blow to the illicit drug trade,” Shepparton said. crime Investigative Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Shortis said in a statement.
“We know that drug use often serves as a stepping stone to other serious crimes, which can have devastating consequences for our community.”
Among those arrested were eight men from Shepparton, all charged with drug trafficking.
