One person is missing and three people had to be rescued after a boating accident off the NSW coast.

Police and other rescue services responded to a distress call at 9.20am on Saturday morning after reports of four people in the water at Port Stephens on the mid-NSW north coast.

Three people were subsequently rescued, with one man in his 50s treated for upper body injuries and two women treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Another person remains missing.

Debris from the ship the four were traveling on washed up on shore, which a witness said was “a scary scene.”

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said multiple crews responded to calls for help in Fingal Bay around 9.30am, the Daily Telegraph reported.

Emergency services personnel have gathered at Fingal Bay surf club to coordinate further rescue efforts.
