Step forward Pape Matar Sarr – who at the age of 21 is considering a drastic career change.

The Spurs midfielder only made his debut for the club under Antonio Conte last season.

But with Ange Postecoglou at the helm, the African was central to the Australian’s plans.

He has made 23 appearances for the club this season, scoring three times.

However, if football doesn’t work out, Sarr has his sights set on something else.

The Senegalese international has a unique passion for software engineering.

“I continue to learn about computer software engineering as I continue to do so for the future,” he shared The Athletics.

“Maybe I’ll pursue a career in software engineering or something like that.”

Spurs fans have been impressed with Sarr’s performances this season, especially the energy he has provided in the middle of the park.

Because he is a strong runner, his family nicknamed him after a Brazilian football legend.

His uncle calls him ‘Carlos’ after he gallops past left back Roberto Carlos.

“It’s a nickname my uncle gave me when I was a young boy just starting out,” he said.

“He said I had a strong drive and a great shot in me and that it looked like Roberto Carlos.

“Maybe I’m not known for that now, maybe I’ve lost that specificity a bit over time, but when I go to Senegal, they still call me Carlos, especially in my neighborhood.

“If someone shouted Pape, no one would turn their head.”
