Prince Abdul Mateen of Brunei and his new wife Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah arrive at a glittering wedding reception attended by royals from around the world – as hundreds of people line the streets

Hundreds of people gathered on the streets of Brunei today to watch Prince Abdul Mateen and his new wife Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah parade through the capital ahead of their wedding reception.

Sunday is the eighth day of the couple's 10-day wedding – which has already seen Asia's most eligible bachelor legally taken off the market – and days full of festivities.

But today is the most important, as Prince Abdul Mateen, 32, and Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah, 29, begin a parade through the streets of Bandar Seri Begawan.

The elaborate ceremony will also see the royal couple publicly tie the knot (despite doing so legally on Wednesday) and enjoy a glittering reception attended by an array of international royalty and dignitaries.

Internet-famous Prince Abdul Mateen announced his engagement to Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah in December – an announcement that shocked fans of Asia's most eligible bachelor.

His new wife is the granddaughter of an advisor to Brunei's leader, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. It is understood that she owns a fashion and tourism company and the couple has been dating for years.

Sunday was an elaborate affair and the 32-year-old prince was dressed for the occasion in a white and gold ceremonial uniform, while his bride wore a long white dress and jewelry.

The couple waved to thousands of people who gathered on the streets of Bandar Seri Begawan before arriving at the Istana Nurul Iman Palace in an open-top Rolls Royce.

This was the first time the newlyweds were seen together since the legal wedding ceremony took place behind closed doors earlier this week.

Photos show the couple taking part in a public wedding ceremony under a lush pergola before entering the palace for a formal blessing.

An estimated 5,000 people will attend a reception at the Istana Nurul Iman Palace later today.

Guests reportedly include royals from Saudi Arabia and Jordan, as well as Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Philippines leader Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

An Islamic wedding ceremony took place on Wednesday, formalizing Prince Abdul Mateen's marriage to Yang Mulia Anisha Rosnah.

However, this was only attended by male members of the wedding party, including the prince himself and his father, the Sultan of Brunei.

Prince Abdul Mateen is the fourth son and tenth child of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, 77, and his former second wife Mariam Abdul Aziz, 67.

The prince is sixth in line to the throne and has risen to prominence on social media, where he actively engages with the public on Instagram – and has 2.4 million followers.

His lavish lifestyle is evident on the social media platform: superyachts, exotic pets, world-class hotels and private jets, intertwined with official royal duties around the world.

But perhaps surprisingly, when the Prince was 24, GQ Thailand described him as 'a grounded man who does not like to show off his family's wealth.'

“He says thank you at the end of every sentence, and he makes no distinctions by class or social status in his interactions with those around him,” the release said.

The interview showed that the prince's charm attracted more attention than his striking appearance.

It also indicated that Mateen was more focused on sharing his interests and discussing family and friends, rather than the monarch's wealth.

Coincidentally, his father, the Sultan of Brunei, is one of the richest people in the world, with a net worth of over £24 billion – thanks to exports of crude oil and natural gas.

Prince Mateen, who was named one of Asia's 50 most coveted bachelors by Tatler Magazine in 2016, holds a Master of Arts in International Studies and Diplomacy from the University of London in 2016.

He currently serves as a helicopter pilot in the Royal Brunei Air Force, with the rank of Major.

Mateen has also shown his passion for polo by representing Brunei at the Southeast Asian Games in 2017 and 2019.
