A catalog from an auction of Princess Diana's dresses held just two months before her death is expected to sell for up to £5,000 later this month.

The auction took place on June 25, 1997 – just weeks before the royal family died following a car accident in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, France.

The limited edition book from the event – ​​which saw more than 79 designer dresses raise £2.57 million for charity – is expected to raise between £3,000 and £5,000.

Purple, Moroccan, leather-bound guidebooks were made for sale, which quickly became a collector's item.

The 250 books were all signed and personally numbered by Princess Diana and she also wrote that the 'beautiful' gathering was inspired by her son Prince William, who was 15 at the time.

Catalog number 104 will be sold together with an official invitation for the 'Dresses' from the Diana, Princess of Wales Collection auction and other related documents, including the printed sales results.

Elena Jackson, vintage fashion specialist at Ewbank Auctions, described the book as a 'treasured keepsake' that is in 'excellent condition'.

“This is a wonderful reminder of what a caring person the late Princess of Wales was,” she explained.

“And how skilled she was in creating such an event for the benefit of the vulnerable.

'This precious memento of one of the last acts of charity she brought into the world has been preserved in excellent condition and is very rare indeed.'

Luxury items from designers Louis Vuitton, Yves St Laurent and Hermès will also go under the hammer on January 26.

Designs from leading names in British fashion, including Ossie Clark, Zandra Rhodes and Biba, will also be available for purchase.
