Qantas offers stranded Swifties a surprise solution as thunderstorms force flight cancellations to Sydney ahead of Taylor Swift’s concert on Friday
The wild weather has canceled flights across the country and stranded Swifties heading to Taylor Swift’s first concert in Sydney.
Airservices Australia introduced restrictions on the volume of inbound and outbound flights for all airlines in Sydney on Friday afternoon due to a forecast thunderstorm.
As a result, Qantas had to cancel four flights from Melbourne to Sydney on Friday afternoon.
However, the airline offered Swift’s fans a surprising alternative way to enter the port city by sending an Airbus A380, one of the largest aircraft in its fleet, which is not normally used for domestic flights.
“The A380 will carry 485 passengers, the equivalent of almost three Boeing 737 flights that normally fly this route,” said a statement from the airline.

“While this would normally be used to support our international network on flights to places like London and LA, given the incredibly high demand for Sydney today, it is being deployed to support the domestic operation.”
Passengers who could not board the Airbus were transferred to alternative flights.
The Airbus departed Melbourne at 5pm and arrived at Sydney International Terminal at approximately 6.40pm.

The pair will stay at the chic Crown Towers, the city’s first six-star hotel, located in the harbor district of Barangaroo, during Swift’s four-day stop in Sydney for her Eras Tour.
While some of her fans made a hectic trip to the port city, Taylor spent the day relaxing ahead of the show. She and her boyfriend Travis Kelce visited the Sydney Zoo.

Yet the loved-up couple still opted for the most lavish – and most expensive – room the hotel had to offer: the Crown Presidential Villa.
The palatial residence is so chic that guests should inquire about nightly rates, which typically start at an eye-watering $16,300 (AUD$25,000) per night.
Billed as the property’s largest villa at 80 sqm, the two-storey hotel room is located on the 88th floor and offers stunning panoramic views of Sydney and Sydney Harbor through floor-to-ceiling windows.
