Queensland mother Ashy Anne denounces her son’s school after teacher banned him from eating cake: bad food

A mother recently berated her son’s kindergarten teacher for “shaming” the little boy after bringing an “unhealthy” snack to school.

Ashy Anne, from Queensland, was shocked when her five-year-old son returned part of his lunch box.

The mother-of-two revealed that she and her son sent a piece of cake to school along with a sandwich, yoghurt and fruit, but the sweet treat remained uneaten.

After questioning, the child revealed that his teacher ‘refused’ him the piece of cake in front of his friends because it was ‘unhealthy’.

Ashy Anne then slammed the other adult for her inappropriate behavior and for projecting “bullsh*t diet culture” onto her five-year-old.

She then made a now-viral video explaining the situation.

“Yesterday I sent my child to school with a small individually wrapped piece of cake, and it came back uneaten.

‘That was very surprising, because my son is going through a growth spurt and he is currently eating everything he sees.

“When I asked him about it, he said his teacher refused to open the piece of cake because it wasn’t healthy.”

The mother turned red when she heard that and expressed her “annoyance” that a teacher who did not know her son or his family was making a decision about what he could eat.

“I feel bad that this teacher shamed him in front of his friends for not having healthy food in his lunchbox,” she said.

Ashy Anne revealed that her son’s box lunch was “very well balanced” and contained servings of yogurt, fruit, a sandwich and cold cuts.

“There was a lot of choice and variety, because that’s what we believe in,” she said. “It’s our job as adults to provide enough food to meet our son’s nutritional needs and to empower him to listen to his body and make decisions.”

“That means he can have sweet things sometimes. I know some people call them “delicacy” or “sometimes food”, but we just call it food. We don’t attach any moral value to food.’

The Queensland woman continued: “As far as I’m concerned, if my son has eaten his ham, cheese, yogurt and fruit, he can have the damn cake if he’s hungry. He can eat the damn cake because he’s not in it for decoration. I made the decision to put it there for him.”

In an update, Ashy Anne revealed that she decided to have a casual chat with her son’s teacher and they agreed on the subject.

“It was a normal conversation and I left it feeling very heard,” she said. “I explained my position on food and I think she really understood me.”

She added, “The teacher told me she was following government regulations on what she needed to teach the kids about ‘healthy’ and ‘unhealthy’ foods — but she won’t deny my child food again.”

Many other parents shared similar stories about dealing with their children’s teachers.

“Some schools are taking the whole box lunch thing too far,” said one mother. “Parents pack what they know their child will eat.”

“It’s not the school’s job to supervise your child’s eating unless they have a known and serious allergy,” said another.

A third wrote: “I have sent a note to my child’s school saying they have nothing to say until they provide his food.”

“I made fruit bars for my daughter and her school labeled them as unhealthy,” one mother revealed. “The next day I sent them back with the ingredients list.”

‘My children didn’t eat for a whole day because their lunch box was ‘too unhealthy’. I put in twigs and fruit with a slice of white bread,” said one mother.
