During the breeding season, the center sees much underweight, malnourished elephant stamp puppies, many of which are still too young to take care of themselves or even swim. Sometimes they also see elephant seals with parasites or traumatic injury, such as dog bites or blunt strength trauma of boat propellers.
In recent years, the Marine Mammal Center has tested patients with bird-fluish symptoms, including breathing and neurological problems, for the virus.
