Real Housewives’ Andy Cohen Takes Meghan Markle’s Pop Music Over Jibe During Spotify Podcast

The reality TV host of the Real Housewives franchise has said Meghan Markle has not addressed him over her critical claim that his show spreads negative stereotypes about women.

On her now-defunct Spotify podcast Archetypes, the Duchess of Sussex questioned whether the show, which Andy Cohen produces, creates “caricatures of women.”

However, she has not expressed her criticism directly to Mr. Cohen, even though he was interviewed on the same episode in November last year.

In his new book The Daddy Diaries, Mr. Cohen emphasized this, saying, “…in that narration she talks about what a difficult conversation this was for her, and mentions that she has conflicting feelings about the housewives.” Newsweek reports.

He added, “I think it was interesting that she said it in the narration but didn’t discuss it directly with me. Wouldn’t that have led to a more dynamic conversation?’

Mr Cohen made an appearance on Archetypes in November last year in what turned out to be the final episode of the show.

It emerged last week that the production will not be renewed for a second season, despite Meghan and her husband Prince Harry signing a £15 million deal for the project in 2020.

Mr Cohen said the month after appearing on Meghan’s show that she was “cheerful” when he was told during their conversation that he had forgotten to have ever met her before she became a royal.

On an episode of his SiriusXM show Andy Cohen Live, the TV producer joked that the duchess threw the mistake “in his face.”

Speaking of Real Housewives, Meghan said in the episode called ‘Mani-festing A Cultural Shift’: ‘I’m in two minds about this.

‘Not about [Cohen’s] success, his rightfully deserved success, but what his success is based on specifically with this franchise.

‘Cause while this season we’re grappling with what archetypes are and how limiting they are, on the other side we’re exploring… whether we’re giving women the space and permission to be exactly who they are, so intricately layered defiant, funny, silly , etc?

“Or in a franchise like Housewives, are we fueling the fire of archetypes by making caricatures of women?”

The Duchess then played a clip of an argument about cheating from The Real Houswives of New Jersey before saying, “Oh my god.” Oh man this is a hard one for me.

“This is a tough one because as you heard Andy describes this as a feminist show and I want to hear him on that because this drama tends to feed off of the kind of women they often feature on the show, or at least one facet of their personality.

And yes, some might call them stereotypes and I think for this reason people really have – as I explain – mixed feelings about the show and the role the show could play in perpetuating the kind of labels we’re talking about had archetypes.

“So I thought it was important to really hear Andy about this and get to know him a little better too.”

Mr. Cohen said in his book that he had agreed to the interview expecting to have to defend Real Housewives.

He wrote, “I go into this expecting to defend my beloved band of housewives, something I’ve grown accustomed to and enjoy doing.”

The star initially spoke about the pair’s conversation on his radio show. Pointing out that she picked up on the fact that he didn’t remember they’d met yet, he said, “She was gleeful when she told me, I must say.”

“She was so happy to tell me that,” adding, “I can actually see why she’d want to throw that in my face.”

“I understand, you know, you never forget how you were treated. You’re still the same person – she’s still Meghan Markle.

But he admitted he had no idea Meghan would keep that “awkward” moment inside, saying he “got it” but found the move “interesting” on her part.

“I just have to say I understand why she left that in there. I found that so interesting,” he said.

Cohen went on to suggest that he considered Meghan a “whatever” person when they first met, saying, “First of all, you never know who you’re going to run into one day.”

“But listen, of course I didn’t become a duchess… I became an old queen talk show host.

“And when I was a young queen, I remember meeting people who were “whatever,” so I just think it’s interesting. It’s very interesting.’

The ‘awkward’ interaction between Meghan and Andy unfolded at the start of their interview, when the TV presenter told the Duchess it was ‘nice to meet her’ – only for her to reply, ‘It’s good to see you. to see. I’ve met you before [but] you’ll never remember.’

Cohen was shocked that he had met the former actress before and Markle then explained that they had first met at the USA-Bravo event, adding that she was a “big fan” of the Real Housewives executive producer .

“I wanted so badly to be on your show because I was such a Housewives fan at the time, and I just couldn’t get Andy booked!” Meghan said before joking, “So thank you for being here with me.”

She then noted that the pair met for the second time when she attended a WHHL taping with her Suits costar Gabriel Macht, but the Duchess was not a guest on the hit show.

Cohen explained that when Markle added that she came “earlier” to a WWHL taping, he felt “a little bit worse.”

He then admitted that turning the former actress down a performance was “the biggest blunder in the show’s 13 years,” adding that he would now “beg” for her to come on the show.
