New Delhi: Australia, the kings of the ICC World Cups have done it again as they played a thriller against South Africa in a low-scoring match in Kolkata on Thursday to reach a record 8th final and set up a top-flight clash with hosts India at Narendra Modi at Ahmedabad Stadium on Sunday.

South Africa succumbed to a brilliant Australian bowling attack and managed to score 212 runs for the five-time champions to chase down. The Aussies started well but then lost their way and with just three wickets in hand held their nerve to take the side home with 16 balls to spare.

After the match, Steve Smith interacted with the tournament broadcasters and opened the final against Rohit Sharma-led India. He knows that it will be a big challenge to play against the best side in the tournament and that it will be an even bigger challenge to play in front of a capacity crowd of 1,30,000 spectators in the largest cricket stadium in the world.

“India is playing so well, undefeated in the tournament, it will be a big challenge for 1 Lakh 30 thousand,” said Smith.

Smith is already a World Cup winner when the Aussies won on home soil in 2015. At the same time, he is also a T20 World Cup winner in 2021. He would definitely look forward to winning a third World Cup crown.

Both India and Australia are meeting at the 50-over summit after a gap of twenty long years. It was in South Africa in 2003, where a young Indian side lost to a formidable Australian team led by Ricky Ponting. This time, the Men in Blue only have revenge in mind.
