Salisbury, Adelaide: Terrifying moment woman was on the phone to her ex-partner when he was hit and killed by a freight train
A heartbroken woman has recalled the last conversation she had with her ex-partner just seconds before he was hit by a freight train.
Brian Garven, 40, was struck and killed by the train as he crossed the tracks near the Salisbury intersection Adelaidenorth at approximately 6:30 PM on May 29.
The father-of-five had been speaking to his ex-partner Kellie Trinidad on the phone at the time of the accident and was on his way to her home to deliver painkillers.

Ms Trinidad said the phone suddenly went dead during their last call.
‘He said I’ll be in Salisbury in 15 minutes, I’ll be home soon, and then the phone went dead. A few seconds later I heard the freight train’s horn,” she said 7News.
“I tried to call him back but the phone wouldn’t answer and kept going to the message bank.”
Two hours later, police officers knocked on her door and told her that Mr. Garven had died.
Ms Trinidad wants her ex-partner, whom she divorced in 2017, to be remembered as a “kind and loving father” to his five children.
He has struggled with homelessness since the split.
Mrs. Trinidad started with one GoFundMe campaign to help pay for the costs of Mr Garven’s funeral, explaining that times are tough during the cost of living crisis.

It has received $790 of its $5,000 goal so far.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport said the crossing infrastructure was operational on the day of the incident.
“We always remind pedestrians to observe safety precautions around railroad tracks at all times and ensure they cross the tracks at designated crossing points,” a department spokesperson told 7News.
