A 22-year-old from Scotsburn was charged on Thursday – just over four weeks after Ms Murphy disappeared during a morning walk in Ballarat, in Victoria’s Central Highlands.

Mrs Murphy, a mother of three, disappeared on February 4.

The suspect had to appear in court on Thursday afternoon.

Samantha Murphy was ‘intentionally attacked’ by her alleged killer, police say

Police Chief Patton said police were not looking for accomplices in Ms Murphy’s alleged murder.

“He has been charged with murder, so by definition we are saying this was a deliberate attack on Samantha,” he said.

He would not comment on the alleged motive or details of the killing.

“We allege that this is a deliberate attack that resulted in the murder of Samantha,” he said.

Police claim Samantha Murphy was murdered in Mount Clear on the day she disappeared

Victoria Police Chief Constable Shane Patton said police will allege Ms Murphy was murdered on the day she disappeared – February 4.

It is alleged she was murdered in the Mount Clear area, less than 5 kilometers from where Ms Murphy lived in Ballarat East.

Mr Patton said her alleged killer has not told police where her body is.

Ms Murphy, 51, disappeared on February 4.

The man was arrested early Wednesday morning and arraigned Thursday afternoon.

The police will provide an update on the case on Thursday at 3:45 p.m.

Police confirmed the alleged killer would appear in the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Thursday afternoon charged with murder.

The accused murderer is taken into custody after appearing in court

The 22-year-old appeared in person at the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Thursday afternoon, wearing orange.

He has not applied for bail and is due to appear in court again on August 8.

Lawyers acting on behalf of the suspect asked the court to impose a temporary ban on personal data including his name, age and address, citing “mental health issues” that could arise as a result of the serious accusation.

Police are remaining tight-lipped about the details of Ms Murphy’s alleged murder

Victoria Police Chief Constable Shane Patton declined to comment on many details surrounding Ms Murphy’s alleged murder.

He would not say whether the suspect was known to police or how Ms Murphy might have been killed.

He also would not reveal whether drugs or alcohol were involved in the alleged murder.

Commissioner Patton was also asked if the alleged murder was sexual in nature.

“I will not collect any details relating to the evidence relating to the murder,” he said.

Samantha Murphy’s family was notified of the arrest Wednesday evening

Ms Murphy’s family were informed of the 22-year-old’s arrest on Wednesday evening.

They were informed of the murder charges on Thursday afternoon.

Murphy’s husband Mick and three children have cooperated with police throughout the investigation.

Samantha Murphy’s accused killer’s name is being suppressed

Ms Murphy’s accused killer appeared in the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Thursday afternoon.

Despite objections from the media, the court ruled that the name of the man accused of her alleged murder would be suppressed.

Police execute search warrants at homes in Scotsburn

A number of homes were searched in the Scotsburn, Victoria area on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old was arrested at his home in Scotsburn on Wednesday morning.

Police have ruled out that Ms Murphy’s death was the result of a collision

Commissioner Patton was asked by a reporter if Ms. Murphy’s death was the result of a collision.

He would not provide details about whether a car was even involved in the alleged murder.

Police also believe the man was not known to Mrs Murphy and her family.

Police say Ms Murphy’s family were very co-operative during ‘intense scrutiny’

Commissioner Patton said Ms Murphy’s family had been under “intense scrutiny” during the investigation.

“They were under intense scrutiny from the start,” he told reporters on Thursday.

“They worked with us and delivered everything we needed without any intervention.”
