'Didn't know it existed,' say Samsung owners after finding a hidden microphone

SOME Samsung owners have only just discovered a hidden microphone with a very specific purpose on their devices.

Smartphones are so advanced these days that most users are not fully aware of all the technical features.

This was recently illustrated by social media users who only just discovered a well-hidden microphone on their Samsung devices.

One X user (formerly Twitter) recently explained this after that Samsung's S24 Ultra has the hidden microphone.

“Galaxy S24 Ultra users, please note that your phone has an additional microphone,” he said.

“[This is] is located on the right side of the ultra-wide camera lens,” he added.

The X user added images showing a small notch hidden on the right side of the device.

Samsung specifically designed this microphone to be used by the devices' main cameras to add crisp audio to video footage.

In fact, the microphone has been around since the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus, TechRadar reported.

But despite this, many Samsung users are unaware of the existence of the microphone.

“Wow, I didn't know this microphone existed until I read this post,” wrote an X user.

“It's really hard to notice unless you really look for it,” the user continued.

“Thanks for pointing it out”, another X user commented.

“I almost went to Samsung Center to check if that was a defect or not,” she added.

Samsung itself also rarely discusses the microphone's existence, according to TechRadar.

“According to Samsung, the S24 Ultra only has two microphones; one at the bottom and one at the top,” the publication said.

“In reality, this 'microphone' behaves more like a sensor than a traditional microphone,” he added.

“So perhaps its functionality isn't important enough to warrant inclusion on Samsung's official Galaxy spec sheets.”

It appears that a similar type of microphone also exists on iPhones as a small dot near the rear camera.
