The boys Livramento and Larry, and the girls Lotus and Lily, were born to mother Grace three weeks ago and have been winning hearts on the farm ever since.

‘The Valais Blacknose sheep came to Britain from Switzerland, from the Valais region, in 2015 – hence their name.

“We got them late that year, so very early.”

Emily explains that it’s not just the color of the species that makes them stand out, but also their friendly nature.

She said: ‘The species are quite rare so look different – but they are also exceptionally friendly sheep, which is another reason why people love them so much.

‘So much so that when one was eating lambs, all the others were cooing and nibbling at my feet.

‘They’re all following me, it’s a bit tiring! When the species came to us in 2015, people came from all over the world to see them.

“There was even a busload from Hawaii!”

Whitehall Farm is also home to 500 other sheep, as well as Aberdeen Angus and Belted Galloway cows, horses, chickens and dogs.

This comes after the Mail revealed how Black-nose sheep are in high demand as pets.

Rarely seen outside their native Switzerland and often referred to as the cutest sheep in the world, the Valais blacknose breed are worth up to £10,000 each – 40 times the value of an ordinary lamb.

These three are the latest additions to the flock on a farm in north Devon where the lambing season is in full swing.

In Switzerland, which banned exports nine years ago, sheep are bred for both wool and meat.

In Britain, where there are probably only a few thousand, they are kept as pets, for breeding and for show.

In 2020 we reported that they typically sell for up to £7,000, but the most attractive rams can fetch £10,000.
