The hottest sex terms for 2024: Searches for ‘findom’, ‘throuple’ and ‘thirst traps’ are on the rise… but do you know what they all mean?

A new study has suggested the most popular sex terms for 2024 – but how many do you know the meaning of?

Analysis of 160 million Google searches revealed the growth and decline of more than 100 major kinky words over the past five years.

The five most popular words were ‘findom’ – financial domination, where someone derives pleasure from controlling someone else’s finances, and ‘thirst trap’ – where someone posts content with the intention of being desired.

But the most popular search term was ‘gooning’: the achievement of long-lasting arousal through sensory overload, often involving hypnotic stimuli.

The findings – written by Rachel Thompson, a leading expert on sex and relationships – also showed that the word chase had gone into decline like a kink over the past five years, with searches for ‘foreplay’ showing the most dramatic decline in the same period.

Beating fell by 33 percent, while chasing fell by 34 percent and slavery fell by 36 percent.

The report was created by analyzing more than 100 of the most popular kink-related keywords, compared to Google search data and insights from Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Twitter/X over the past five years.

The data points to a rapidly changing landscape of sexual preferences in Britain, fueled by social media and intergenerational changes.

It also shines a spotlight on an entirely new sexual vocabulary that has emerged online to circumvent censorship, called “the sexicon” or “algospeech.”

Neologisms like seggs (sex), maize (porn), mascara (romantic sexual partner) and accountant (sex worker) have emerged, allowing content creators to bypass algorithmic filters on sites like TikTok and Instagram to tackle overly sexual content.

SEXUAL TRENDS ARE ON THE RISE OVER THE LAST FIVE YEARS:

1. Gooning +778 percent: Achieving long-lasting arousal through sensory overload, often with hypnotic stimuli.

2. Femboy +504 percent: Men or non-binary individuals who present themselves in a feminine way.

3. Thirst trap +335 percent: Posting enticing content on social media to gain attention or validation.

4. Throuple +230 percent: A romantic relationship involving three individuals in a consensual partnership.

5. Edges +91 percent: Deliberately delaying an orgasm to prolong sexual pleasure.

6. Findom +83 percent: Financial domination, where one person derives pleasure from controlling another’s finances.

7. Shibari +62 percent: The intricate art of Japanese rope bondage.

8. OWO +57 percent: An emoticon that represents a surprised or curious facial expression.

9. Pegging +30 percent: Sexual practice in which a woman uses a strap-on to anally penetrate a male partner.

10. For +26 percent: Fetish involving the fantasy of being consumed or consuming another being.

SEXUAL TRENDS THAT HAVE HAPPENED IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS:

1. Cottage -70 percent: Engaging in sexual activities in public restrooms or secluded outdoor areas.

2. Sloshing -54 percent: Fetish enjoys sensations from sitting or playing in messy food substances.

3. Zental -53 percent: Tight-fitting full-body suits made of spandex or nylon, used in fetish or costume play.

4. Micro-penis -47 percent: A smaller than average penis size, often less than 2.8 inches when erect.

5. Cybersex -45 percent: Engaging in sexual activities/explicit conversations via digital platforms.

6. Cross-dressing -38 percent: Wearing clothing typically associated with the opposite sex for personal expression.

7. Slavery -36 percent: Consensual practice of restraining or tying a partner for sexual pleasure.

8. Chase -34 percent: Engaging in or watching sexual activities in public places, usually involving strangers.

9. Hitting -33 percent: Spanking someone on the buttocks for sexual pleasure or as part of BDSM.

10. Predict -32 percent: Stimulation prior to sexual intercourse, intended to increase arousal and intimacy.
