Shaun Micallef returns to the ABC with a new comedy show, a year after his long-running Mad As Hell program was axed.

The 61-year-old comedian’s new show was unveiled at Sydney’s ABC Upfronts on Thursday and looks to feature Micallef’s signature intellectual comedy.

Micallef said in a statement that his new show will be different from what’s on TV right now.

“There will be no cooking, home renovations, weddings, singing, sports, RBT units, dogs, wilderness survival, quiz questions, news clips or visuals,” he began.

“It’s not about wearing masks, border patrol, great racing, Lego, sitting on a panel or being stranded on an island in your underwear.”

The veteran funnyman has appeared on a host of successful ABC shows, including Mad As Hell, The Ex PM and The Micallef Program, as well as several shows on commercial networks.

In September 2022, it was announced that Micallef would be publishing a tell-all book titled Tripping Over Myself, about the behind-the-scenes secrets of his hit ABC series, Mad As Hell.

The Newstopia star promised fans he wouldn’t hold back in the book, which was released last year.

He even names and shames a politician who whined about the way they were portrayed on the satirical comedy sketch show.

Presented by Shaun, Mad as Hell satirized Australian politics and has been a consistent ratings winner for the ABC since its debut in 2012.

While describing his new book, Shaun said Television tonight “It’s the story of Mad as Hell, the story of every comedy bit I’ve done.

‘It is subtitled: A Memoir of a Life in Comedy. So I talk about my love for comedy.”

The news came after it was announced that the ABC was canceling Mad as Hell in 2022.
