New Delhi: Shubman Gill reflected on his journey in 2023 and shared his goals for the year ahead via his latest Instagram. The star opening batsman had a stellar 2023, hitting an ODI double ton and becoming the youngest batsman to do so and even winning the IPL Orange cap. He also became the new captain of the Gujarat Titans after Hardik Pandya’s return to Mumbai Indians.

“Exactly one year ago I spread it into the universe. As 2023 comes to a close, the year has been full of experiences, lots of fun and other great lessons. The end of the year didn’t go as planned, but I can proudly say that we came very close to our goals and gave everything we had. The coming year brings its own challenges and opportunities. Hopefully we will get closer to our goals in 2024. I hope you all find love, joy and strength in everything you do,” Shubman Gill captioned his post.

2023 was a breakthrough year for Gill where he made 1584 ODI runs at an average of 63.36 and a strike rate of 105.45. He also made 312 runs in 13 innings in T20Is, with an average of 26 and a strike-rate of 145.11, apart from being the leading run-getter in IPL 2023.

But in Tests it was a completely different story for Gill as he made 258 runs in six Tests at an average of 28.66. His only Test century this year came against Australia in the fourth match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series on a flat pitch in Ahmedabad in March, with the match ending in a draw.

Now trailing 1-0 in the two-match series, India begin their 2024 series through the second Test match against South Africa, starting on January 3 at Newlands in Cape Town, and Shubman Gill is keen to make a spectacular start of his year.

The Indian side will need a lot of runs from its bat to bounce back in this series and end it on a winning note. He will also be a crucial asset to the side in the upcoming 2023 T20 World Cup
