Simon Baker’s The Mentalist co-star says the Aussie actor was not ‘nice’ to work with on-set: ‘I wouldn’t use that word’

Mentalist star Simon Baker would be ‘not fun’ to work with, according to an actor who briefly starred in the show with the Australian actor.

Jeff Cannata had a small role as an unnamed cop in episode four of season six of the crime drama in 2013.

He mentions the experience on his podcast The movie castThe American actor, 47, said “fun” was not how he would describe the 54-year-old Emmy Award winner.

Jeff spoke about working with the Devil Wears Prada star when his co-host David Chen began discussing Simon’s 2023 film Limbo.

‘The big thing about it [Limbo] Is it Simon Baker who, for those who don’t know, played The Mentalist on the CBS drama that ran from 2008 to 2015,” David said.

Jeff interjected and said, “You mean my co-star in The Mentalist? I did an episode of The Mentalist. I rode in a van with him.”

“Was he nice Jeff?” David asked.

Jeff was then heard taking a deep breath as he carefully considered his next words before finally saying, “I wouldn’t use that word.”

Simon portrayed former ‘psychic’ Patrick Jane on the series from 2008 to 2015, with his character acting as a consultant to the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Patrick worked with senior agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) to solve crimes using his highly developed observation skills.

The Mentalist concluded its seventh and final season in early 2015 after CBS canceled the hit crime drama.

There was much speculation at the time about the show’s demise, with CBS officially confirming its ending in 2014 with a shortened 13-episode season.

Since the end of the series, Simon has kept a low profile and is rarely seen on the big screens in Hollywood, after becoming picky about the projects he worked on.

He told CBS LA in 2022 that after landing such a coveted role in The Mentalist and making millions, he is now “not that hungry for work.”

Simon recently starred in the hit Boy Swallows Universe and has another film and TV show in post-production, according to his IMDB.
