Stranger Things co-creator Ross Duffer and his wife Leigh Janiak have split.

It was reported on Friday that his film director wife, 44, had filed for divorce from the showrunner, 40, after nearly a decade of marriage.

According to legal documents obtained by TMZshe cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their separation, but a separation date has not yet been announced.

This comes shortly after production on the fifth and final season of Stranger Things began following delays due to the Hollywood strikes.

The former couple first met in 2006 while working at a production company in Los Angeles, with Janiak as a producer assistant while Duffer was an intern.

Leigh is known for directing horror films, such as her 2014 directorial debut, Romantic Film and The Fear Street Trilogy.

The couple married nine years ago in 2015 and do not share any children together.

The year after they married, Duffer and his twin brother Matt premiered the Netflix sci-fi thriller series Stranger Things.

The duo is often referred to as the Duffer Brothers.

The twins also co-wrote and directed a 2015 horror mystery titled Hidden, starring Alexander Skarsgård opposite Andrea Riseborough.

Just weeks earlier, the cast and crew of Duffer and the Stranger Things began production on the fifth and final season.

Filming was initially scheduled for last year, but was ultimately postponed due to the Hollywood strikes.

The scripts were completed, but the Duffer Brothers chose to delay production because they wanted writers on set during filming.

The creator and showrunner duo first created the popular Netflix series almost ten years ago.

The first season of Stranger Things premiered in July 2016 and the second season was released the following year in October 2017.

The third season premiered on Netflix in July 2019, while the fourth was released in May 2022.

Not much has been revealed about the fifth and final season, but it has been revealed that the first episode will be titled The Crawl.

No release date has been announced yet, but it is reported that the final season won’t be released until sometime in 2025.
