“We want to thank HBO, this wasn't an easy show to get up and running at first,” said the show's creator Jesse Armstrong said during the ceremony, which took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. “We just wanted to say hello. Hello to Jeremy Strongwho makes a movie, and hello [show writer] Lucy Prebble, who made a baby. We send our love to them both.”
Armstrong, 53, also gave a shout-out to Brian Cox, “who the show revolves around,” even though his character died early in the final season. He added: “This is a show about family, but it's also about when partisan reporting becomes intertwined with divisive right-wing politics. And after four seasons of satire, as I understand it, that's a problem we've now solved. So we can now leave the stage.”
