Solar Flare: The sun emitted a strong solar flare on June 20, 2023, NASA said. Constantly watching the sun, NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory captured an image of the event. “This torch is classified as an X1.0 torch. X class indicates the most intense flares, while the number provides more information about their strength,” NASA explained.

Solar flares are powerful bursts of energy. Flares and solar flares can affect high-frequency (HF) radio communications, power grids, navigation signals, and pose risks to spacecraft and astronauts.

This torch is classified as an X1.0 torch. X class indicates the most intense flares, while the number provides more information about their strength.

Go to NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center to see how such space weather can affect Earth https://spaceweather.gov/, the U.S. government’s official source for space weather forecasts, watches, alerts, and warnings. NASA works as a research arm of the country’s space weather effort.

NASA constantly observes the sun and our space environment with a fleet of spacecraft that study everything from the sun’s activity to the solar atmosphere and the particles and magnetic fields in the space around the Earth.
