Sydney Sweeney Celebrates as 'Everyone But You' Hits $100 Million

Sydney Sweeney has plenty to celebrate Everyone but youthe romantic comedy in which she stars and produced surpassed $100 million at the worldwide box office.

“You guys are the best,” 26-year-old Sweeney wrote on Sunday, January 22 via Instagram Story. “I know I keep saying this, but I honestly can't thank you enough for continuing to share your love for this movie.”

The Euphoria star added: “Rom coms are back baby!!!!!”

Everyone but youloosely based on William Shakespeare'S Much ado about nothingfollows Bea (Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell), who once had a steamy night together, but have since become enemies. When they end up at a wedding together in Australia, they decide to pretend they're dating to hang out with their respective exes. The fake relationship causes real feelings between the two.

What happens in the end is no surprise, but fans of romantic comedies enjoy watching the journey that leads up to the happily ever after. Powell, 35, recently came to the defense of romcom aficionados at the Sundance Film Festival.

“For me, anyway, I've always been a fan of movies in general and I always find it weird when certain actors trivialize certain genres,” Powell shared. Variety on Sunday, January 21. “In the best performance it gives an audience so much joy and pleasure, and as an actor you get to play a lot of gears. To mock a genre and look down on it is quite foolish.”

He added: “For me Everyone but you It was a joy to see the audience dancing out of the theater and feeling so happy after seeing a movie. Seeing the box office not only survive, but grow has been such a cool lesson that sometimes the genres that are forgotten are the very genres that audiences crave most.”

With $64 million at the domestic box office and $100 million worldwide, Everyone but you has more than recouped its $25 million budget. It is the most successful R-rated rom-com since 2016 Bridget Jones' baby.

Everyone but you didn't initially break box office records when it hit theaters on December 22, but has shown a steady rise for three consecutive weekends, an unusual trend that usually indicates a word-of-mouth hit. Fans have been discussing the film online Natasha Bedingfield“Unscribed” – a key song on the soundtrack – becomes a trending sound on TikTok.

It also helps that Sweeney and Powell's press tour went viral. On a Today show appearance last month, the costars were asked if there was “a little romance” between them — despite the fact that Sweeney has been engaged to Jonathan Davino (who also served as the film's executive producer). Powell, meanwhile, was dating Gigi Paris during filming, but they broke up shortly after the film wrapped.

“No, no, but we do love each other,” Powell said. “Honestly, this is one of the most spectacular people I've ever met. She is absolutely incredible.”
